Brag: I just got promoted to Poker Room Analyst at PokerStars. The money is absolutely ridiculous.
Beat: The job is in Isle of Man.
So, that means I'll be leaving Edinburgh, probably around November 1st. It's something of an end of an era for me - I've been here six years and I still love Edinburgh (and Scotland as a whole) as much as when I first arrived.
I quite fancy celebrating tonight. Anyone up for the Chanter?

Yes, PokerStars' Head Office is in Onchan. Since the job involves both management and game security, it's better if I'm based there.

Nice one! You'll have to go out and buy a ridiculously fast car now cause thats about all you can do over there. Is it not just all big conglomerate corporations avoiding tax, sheep and no speed restrictions on the roads?
Or is that just a bad stereotype.
I know Clarkson owns a house over there.
Is there anything to do?
Cool news tho - was wondering what the job interview was about |

Thanks!
Getting a fast car definitely crossed my mind! Was looking at a Subaru Impreza, which is the car I've wanted since I was about 15. Then I looked up insurance quotes, and found out it would cost me about £2000-£3000 to insure it for a year. Guess they don't like newly-qualified 24-year olds in fast cars. So I'll probably get a Mini Cooper or a Fiesta instead.
As far as stuff to do goes - the capital, Douglas (which is where I want to live) has a population of about 25,000 and the entire island has about 80,000. There's stuff to do, but it's not on as grand a scale as Edinburgh by any means.
So I guess I'll be playing a lot of online poker. Meh, it'll do me good. |
